How I Fixed a Broken Skin Barrier

I suffered from a broken skin barrier myself and this is how I got my skin barrier back to normal.

  1. SKIP the soap: skip the soap and wash with warm water. If you must cleanse, use an oil cleanser with warm water. I used plain old squalene oil and it was very gentle and effective!
  2. Use a Ceramide moisturizer: Ceramides may be the most important ingredient to heal your damaged skin barrier. My holy grail is Ceramidin by Dr. Jart. Yes it’s not cheap, but it was the main product that healed me. It also unbelievably shortened the time my skin took to go back to normal.
  3. No abrasives: Stay away from scrubs (with physical or chemical exfoliators), acids in toner forms (like Glycolic acid, and even Mandelic acid), peels etc: Avoid at all costs.

Most of all: patience. It’s quite cathartic actually to take a break from all your products and go back to a simple routine. The added plus is that you can now gauge which products are working well and which ones don’t. I wish you good luck on your journey.
